A real Russian wood-fired banya in Phuket

ZIMA is a wood-fired Russian banya in Rawai, southern Phuket. At its heart are real wood-fired stoves and a steam room with proper steam: here you steam with steam, not with degrees — with venik brooms and professional steammasters.

After the steam room — an ice plunge, the warmth of the hammam, a Japanese onsen and a pool. Finish your visit with a Thai or oil massage, herbal tea and dishes from our restaurant. Wednesday and Sunday are family days.

Frequently asked questions

Is your banya really wood-fired?

Yes. Our stoves burn real firewood. For us this is an essential part of banya: what matters is not just high temperature, but the quality of the steam, the right balance of heat and humidity, and how you actually feel in the steam room. Our steammasters and stove keepers look after exactly that.

What is there in ZIMA besides the Russian steam room?

ZIMA is a full wellness complex. Alongside the Russian steam room you'll find a hammam, a hot Japanese onsen, an ice plunge, a pool, massage and a restaurant. That's why guests usually come for a few hours — to fully switch off and recover.

What is included in the entry ticket?

Entry gives access to the main public zones of the complex (Russian steam room, hammam, hot onsen, ice plunge, pool, relaxation area) for up to three hours. The visit includes two scheduled group "Fresh Steam" parenie sessions, a fruit plate, two towels and free drinking water. Private venik parenie, massage, spa treatments, food and drinks can be ordered separately.

Can I come with children?

Yes. Wednesday and Sunday are family days at ZIMA, when you are welcome to come with kids. On other days we keep a calmer, more grown-up atmosphere.

What are the opening hours?

ZIMA is open Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–23:00.

Monday is our day off.

Wednesday and Sunday are family days.

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking ahead is best — especially for evenings and weekends, or if you'd like a massage or private parenie. The fastest way is online: it takes a couple of minutes. If there is space, walk-ins are welcome too.

How long can I stay at ZIMA?

A standard visit is three hours — enough to go through several unhurried cycles of steam and cooling, rest and enjoy the other zones. If you'd like to stay longer, you can pay for extra time and extend your visit.

What is parenie with a steammaster?

It's one of the best reasons to get to know Russian banya. A steammaster works with steam, temperature and venik brooms, warming the body up gradually. It's a completely different experience from just sitting in a sauna. ZIMA offers both group sessions and private parenie programs with a steammaster.

Can I come if I don't like very hot saunas?

Of course. Russian banya doesn't have to be extremely hot. We keep the steam room at around 60 °C (140 °F), because at ZIMA you steam with steam, not with degrees — and that's enough for a deep, full-body warm-up. Choose a comfortable pace, alternate the steam room with the hammam, pool and rest, and find your own rhythm.

I've never been to a Russian banya. Is it for me?

Yes. The rules are simple, and our staff and steammasters will show you where to start. There's no need to endure maximum heat or to stay in the steam room for as long as you can. Russian banya is above all the right combination of warmth, steam, rest and cooling.
